The Four Skills of Language

Children learn how to speak before they can read but because a second language acquisition is slightly different from learning a mother tongue, the 4 skills of language, listening, speaking, reading and writing can be introduced from the start of your studies. While listening and speaking skills will ensure confidence in speaking, reading and writing will help you memorise words and patterns of language. At first the passive skills of language such as listening and reading will be easier.  The active skills, speaking and writing, will require more time and will improve with time and practice. A good balance of the 4 skills of language is important to communicate at all levels.
